PHSE
At St Paul’s C of E Primary School and Nursery, PSHE is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that personal, social, emotional and mental wellbeing is not developed through one lesson each week, but through every interaction, every subject and every experience throughout the school day. Our curriculum is designed to help every child develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to become happy, healthy, respectful and resilient individuals who are ready to contribute positively to their communities. Through our Jigsaw PSHE curriculum, alongside opportunities embedded across the wider curriculum, children learn to understand themselves, build positive relationships, celebrate diversity, make safe and informed choices, and develop the emotional literacy needed to thrive both now and in the future.
PSHE is woven throughout our curriculum. In English, children explore a wide range of high-quality, diverse texts that reflect our multicultural school community and the wider world, while writing provides meaningful opportunities for children to express their thoughts, emotions, experiences and aspirations. In History, children learn about significant individuals from a variety of cultures, backgrounds and time periods, developing an understanding of how people have shaped society. Geography encourages children to explore the natural world while developing curiosity, respect and appreciation for different countries, cultures, beliefs and ways of life. Across all subjects, children are encouraged to think critically, communicate respectfully and recognise the value of different perspectives, helping them to become compassionate and active citizens.
Central to our vision is ensuring that every child feels seen, valued and that they truly belong within our school community. We intentionally build positive relationships, greet children warmly each day, celebrate their individual strengths and provide opportunities for every child to experience success. We know that children learn best when they feel safe, accepted and connected, so we create an inclusive environment where every child is listened to, respected and encouraged to be themselves. By fostering a strong sense of belonging and nurturing positive mental health, we equip our children with the confidence to embrace challenges, develop resilience and flourish both within school and beyond.
By the time children leave St Paul’s C of E Primary School & Nursery, they will:
